What Does Severe Pain In The Right Shoulder Indicate?

Hello my name is Shannon Burgess, and I am the caregiver to my parents. My Dad is a 62 and is having extreme pain in his right shoulder, but however, has great range of motion. He has explained the pain as the muscle or nerve below the shoulder in the front is extreme painful. He explains the pain as constant however, he has complained of a shooting pain in the muscle area, or nerves surrounding the shoulder. He doesn t recall doing anything to cause the pain, it s just been onset.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It sounds like he may have something called thoracic outlet syndrome. This is caused by an entrapment of the nerves of the brachial plexus. This syndrome can cause pain in front of the shoulder as well as pain and numbness in the arm.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
