What Does Sharp Pain In The Ears Indicate?

Brief, sharp, intermittent infrequent ear pain. Sometimes left, right, or both. No fullness, no hearing issues, no tinn, no popping. No pain overnight. One Dr. (general practitioner) says reflux due to history with mild LPR symptom (light throat clearing after dinner). One Dr. (ENT) says TMJ. Neither Dr. looked to far into it, as I was in offices for other issues (yearly check up and throat clearing). Pain feels like right inside ear. Occasional pain when i push right under ear. No jaw symptoms. I m on no meds. I have no ear infection. Tylenol may help, but sometimes I don t think it does. PPIs didn t help (for about 2 weeks). Began chewing gum a few months ago, this MAY have aggravated it. I quit a month ago, no improvement. I have not tried all soft foods yet. TMJ or ETD?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to an ear infection. I suggest you to do a complete blood count to confirm the diagnosis. Meanwhile you can continue Tylenol. You should also use ear drops for relief. If the diagnosis is confirmed, then antibiotics are needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
