What Does Tenderness On The Bottom Of The Ribs Indicate?

I have a mild/dull ache or tenderness just under my bottom two ribs. I have been eating very poorly lately, more sugar and rich food than usual. I had blood in stools in last two bowel movements, bright red and plentiful, looked different from anal tissue problem caused by large stool. I have also been exercising a bit after many months of relative inactivity. Possible causes?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You can possibly have lower colon infection, diverticulitis or some local anal piles like issue. I suggest you visit gastroenterologist for rectal proctoscopy examination to rule out piles or fissure. If needed doctor will plan ultrasonography as well to rule out lower colon infection. If you have more than two episode of bleed in stool than you should take five days course of antibiotic. Drink more water. Avoid excess spicy foods intake.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
