What Does This CT Scan Report Of Sinus Specify?

Dear Dr, Sinus CT scan report: There is a polypoid mucosal thickening of the right maxillary antru, as well as the sphenoid sinus on the right side. The rest of the sinuses are clear. The bony septum is slightly deviated, with a posterior convexity to the left side. There is also a small spur in the left nasal passage in the posterior aspect of the bony septum. Bilateral concha bullosas noted of the middle turbinates, which are not infected. No other turbinate pathology seen There are no signs of adenoidal enlargement or other nasopharyngeal pathology. The mastoid air cells and middle ears are clear. No obvious teeth pathology seen. Kindly explain what this means to the lay man. Many thanks, Sonja

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Though the associated symptoms of the patient are vital to co relate with any of the radiology report as CT scan or else, solely on the report narration, I can comment as:
- Bony septum deviation with thickening of maxillary antrum and sphenoid sinus indicate sinusitis issue from long standing allergy or repeated upper respiratory tract infections most likely.
- Routinely, if symptoms are of minor to moderate intensity, conservative approach with:
Saline nasal drops
Medications of anti-histamine properties
Steroids
Seam inhalation and avoidance of exposure to pollen or dust matter a lot.

If the symptoms are of severe intensity, failure of response to conservative therapy needs surgical correction of deviated septum with sinus cleavage.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
