What Does This MRI Report Of Right Shoulder Indicate?

I recently had an MRI of my right shoulder. The report says I have a SLAP tear type II with associated small paralabral cysts. Also moderate to severe AC joint arthrosis with acute reactive endplate edema, AC joint capsulitis. I am 46 year old male. Went to Dr. for persistent shoulder pain. Steroid treatment for tendinitis made no difference. Actually the pain worsened. Next we did the MRI. I will see an ortho in 2 weeks. Just trying to find out what all this means and if I should expect to need surgery.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
Let me explain in detail. Our holder joint is made by two bones upper part of humerus and lateral part of shoulder blade a/k/a Glenoid . . Acromio clavicular joint (ac) is in lateral joint of collar bone. This two bones are held with joint capsule which is fibrous and there is a thick tissue in attached to Glenoid known as labrum. Labrum maintain shoulder joint stability and helps Inn smooth movement. Your report shows SLAP tear which is superior labial anteroposterior avulsion type 2 and it needs surgery. Your labrum is torn in superior aspect at Glenoid and needs repair. Labial cyst formation is cavity filled with fluid and is sign of labial degeneration. Now ac joint arthroscopic means arthritic changes in your ac joint with en ducked space and disc degeneration. End plate changes are loss of smooth cartilage cover over bony joint surfaces and hence pain. You should visit expert shoulder arthroscopic specialist asap and get yourself examined and treated. Hope this was helpful. All the best.
