What Does This Pelvic Ultrasound Test Result Indicate?

i had an ultrasound done on Day 2 of my cycle. The radiologist said - Both ovaries are mildly enlarged in size and show multiple peripherally situated cysts with central echogenmic stroma. what does that mean? We are planning a family and this is worrying me.

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
I have read and understood your worry
A cyst is just a closed sac containing fluid. In some women, multiple cysts develop in their ovaries. It is termed polycystic ovarian disease. It is the most common endocrine disorder in women of child bearing age and is due to elevated male hormones.Symptoms may include irregular/no mentrual period, heavy periods, excess boy/facial hairs, acne, pelvic pain, difficulty getting pregnant...
Polycystic ovaries will not stop you from having a family if well managed and on time. You might not have the symptoms yet since you never mentioned.I will advise you see a Gynecologist to evaluate you, see the extend of the problem and decide the treatment option if you need treatment.Treatment options include life style modification, medications or surgery. Also, if you desire kids, the earlier you start having them the better.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
