What Does This Pelvic Ultrasound Test Result Indicate?

Uterine bladder is distended, wall is normal. No calculus is seen. Uterus is anteverted and normal in size. It measures 7.45 ×3.47cm. Endometrial plate is central and normal in thickness. A poorly defined intramural nodule measuring 1.49×2.29cm is seen in the posterior uterine wall. Both ovaries are sonographically normal. Both adnexae and pouch of Douglas are free. Conclusion: INTRAMURAL FIBROID NODULE. I need an interpretation to this result. Could it possibly be that this patient has fibroid?if yes what is the next step to take to seeing this issue resolved?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, it is an intramural fibroid. Fibroids may cause dysfunctional uterine bleeding. The medical management can be done with hemo coagulants and hormonal therapy and at the most surgery (myomectomy or hysterectomy) is needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
