Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Walgreen s health clinic has been treating me for an UTI. My health insurance Part D does not recognize Utira-C as an appropriate treatment & will not pay for this prescription. What is Utira-C or methenamin-hyosc-m or Urelle used more appropriately for?
Hello, Welcome to HCM. Utira-C is combination of several drugs having different actions. Basically, it contains 1)METHENAMINE helps in removal of bacteria causing urinary infection. 2) HYOSCYAMINE which is a spasmolytic for relaxation of smooth muscle 3) PHENYL SALICYLATE which is a mild analgesic for for pain relief. Utira-C is given for urinary tract infection and it is FDA approved drug. So, I can not understand why your health insurance Co. is denying this prescriptions. I assume some times they prefer that patients get drugs in separate prescription and they don't allow for this kind of combination treatment. You should discuss this with your insurance provider. I hope this will be helpful. Take care.
