Hello,
Domestal or Emeset intake does not cause side effects like
restlessness, confusion, talking irrelevant things, and yelling. Those injections are only for
nausea and
vomiting. They do not calm restlessness or confusion, and they are not meant for
delirium. Giving them will not help the problem you are describing.
This type of behavior in very elderly patients on
tuberculosis medicines is usually due to treatment-related delirium,
dehydration, infection, changes in electrolytes, or even stress of illness. The brain becomes extremely sensitive to medicines at this age.
For restlessness and confusion, we usually need first to figure out the trigger. In my clinic, before any calming medicine could be given, I would check his vitals, hydration,
oxygen level, blood sodium, potassium, kidney function, and rule out infection or medicine toxicity. Only after that, we use very mild calming medicines when necessary, but these are chosen with extreme caution because elderly patients may worsen or become more drowsy with the wrong drug.
Neither Domestal nor Emeset injection is suitable for his symptoms. They are anti-vomiting medicines and will not settle confusion. First, get him assessed as soon as possible, preferably in the emergency room or by a physician who is able to examine him on the spot.
Sudden changes in behavior should be taken seriously in a ninety-nine-year-old patient on numerous medications for tuberculosis. Do not start any injection at home without the doctor seeing him physically. His condition is treatable. It just must be assessed in person before giving anything, especially considering his age, weight, and ongoing tuberculosis therapy.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further query I will be happy to help. Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Usaid Yousuf, General and Family Physician
