Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently taking Methadone 10 mg 3 x daily, Nucynta ER 150 mg 2 x daily and Gabap entin 300 mg 3 x daily for chronic pain. After trying a number of meds over the past 5 years this seems to be what works the best. I don t get fuzzy headed, sleepy, etc. This is two fold; I would like to find something else to take in lieu of methadone, suggestions? I am trying to obtain guardianship of my two grandsons, they were kidnapped by their mother for 10 mos and have now been in foster care for 1 year. There is a concern at Childrens Services that I am on heavy duty medications and high dosage. This is fueled by my daughter-in-laws drug abuse. They are seeing Methadone listed as medication I take and are thinking drug addiction. What can I take in lieu of methadone???? Please help, I will do whatever is necessary for my grandsons. Thank you.
dear, Drug Methadone, belongs to a class of Chicago which heroin or LSD does. It is a potent pain killers and at the same time very very addictive. To get off methadone one has to follow a similar protocol that is used to detoxify heroin abusers. Therefore, a psychiatric consultation warrants here. Even a possible hospital admission. I suggest your treating doctor to consider adding drug Buphrenorphine as a substitute of methadone. However, before initiation and discontinuation of any drug a proper and detailed information of the drug use with the duration of intake and its pattern is essential. Therfore I advice you to see a psychiatrist and suggest him to considering above drug.
