What Is Causing Numbness In The Neck?

Hello 2 days ago i woke w sore neck which got worse as day progressed, thn next morning felt somewhat better thn again as day wore on it really started hurting again and started feeling numbness on part of face by ear and around neck and feel knot on back portion please help. What could this be? I have had cricks in neck before but never with this numbness and continued pain..?
