What Is Persistent Inflammation In Left Epididymis Suggestive Of?

Hello, roughly 2 months ago I experienced slight pain and discomfort in my scrotum and noticed there was what felt like a small lump on the top back part of my left testicle. I obviously went to a doctor (not a urologist) right away and he diagnosed it as a epididymis cyst and gave me antibiotics twice a day for 10 days, unfortunately I do not remember what type of antibiotic it was and I hope that isn t important. The pain was never really that bad but after taking these antibiotics all seemed to be fine, the lump never really went away but it was never that big to begin with. A few weeks later, however, the pain worsened a bit (not THAT bad) and the lump had gotten slightly bigger. We went to a different doctor (not a urologist again) who examined me and diagnosed me with epididymitis (not sure if I spelled that right) - he gave me a shot of something (not sure what the shot was) in my rear end and also gave me doxycycline twice a day for 10 days. He also instructed that I see a urologist if it came back after a month of the antibiotics as it could be an anatomical reason which is causing the inflammation. Well it has been roughly 2-3 weeks since the end of the 10 day period of doxycycline and honestly I do not feel as though it did anything at all. There is relatively no pain at all, though there never really was much to begin with, but my left epididymis is still clearly inflamed as well as the tubes behind it - there is mild discomfort at times but that s it really. I am worried still but should I be? Will it go away on its own? I have never experienced any problems urinating or ejaculating, no blood in either. If you told me it would be like this the rest of my life I might be fine with it actually (just to give you an idea of the pain/discomfort level). I am just worried that because it is still inflamed it could turn into something worse, is that possible? Please help me as I am kind of worried about it honestly, it drives me crazy sometimes. I also have never had sex before so I know it isn t STD related, based on my personal research I have little no clue what it is. I thought maybe it was a UTI that came from masturbation on full bladder, which spread to the epididymis - however I have no problems with urination, maybe a SLIGHT burning feeling during but not much at all. Nothing really out of the ordinary. Please help!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Consult a urologist and get evaluated. It is a part of epididymitis and persistent inflammation.

Do a urine culture and start antibiotics according to the culture reports.

Nothing much to worry and you will improve with proper antibiotics,

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
