What Is The Average Weight Gain After Taking Quetiapine?

My doctor has prescribed quetiapine for me but I haven t started taking it yet. I notice on WWW.WWWW.WW that one of the side affects is weight gain. I have struggled with my weight for most of my life and so I m very hesitant about taking any drug that may cause me to put on more weight. I am currently 110kg. I m a 41 year old female and I m 5.9 . Could you please tell me what the likelyhood of weight gain in my case may be or if you have specific knowledge of percentages of patients who have gained weight on this drug?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Antipsychotics , including, quetiapine, can cause weight gain.

Though the exact mechanism by which this occurs is not known, it is possible that it stimulates the appetite.

If you are aware of this potential effect, then you can try to combat it by using healthy foods that are unlikely to cause any significant weight gain.
If you use only healthy foods and are active then it is unlikely that weight gain could occur.

I hope this help
