What Is The Cause And Treatment For IBS?

My dr put me on amitiza 24micro grams twice a day. I m still not able to have a bowel movement and they keep diagnosing me with Ibs. I have been to a few different drs. I have had many test in the past. They all seem to ignore the fact that I feel full and bloated most of the time and that I throw up at least 4 times a week, this gets worse when I have my period. I have been dealing with this problem for the last 16 years. All of the issue started after I gave birth to my son. I am tired of them just wanting to give medication instead of finding and fixing the problem.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of being prescribed Amitiza 24 micro-grams twice a day, still unable to pass bowel movements and the Doctors diagnosed you as a case of IBS, consulted many Doctors, had many tests. Your complaints started after the birth of your son, you feel full and bloated, vomit at least 4 times a week, worsened on periods, going on for the last 16 years.
The most probable reasons for your problems seems to be as follows:
There can be endometriosis as your symptoms get enhanced with periods.
The endometriosis in turn can cause intestinal and bladder symptoms and hence I would advise you the following:
- Consult Gynecologist and a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations to get a proper diagnosis.
You need the tests of blood, urine and stool.
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position.
Ultrasonography followed by a CT scan of the abdomen.
Diagnostic laparoscopy and procedures as needed can the diagnostic as well as therapeutic.
I find this answer helpful
