What Is The Cause And Treatment For Athelia?

I see a lot written about Athelia. However, I can t find anything about possible treatment if there is any and breast feeding...... My friends child age 17 has this and has only seen a cosmetic surgeon. I feel this is not about aesthetics but functionality. I am curious ..... Thank you

Pediatrician 's  Response
Thanks for putting up your query at HealthCareMagic. Athelia is rare congenital condition characterised by the absence of one or both nipples. Although nipples can be cosmetically created, the functionality cannot be attributed. So, in all probabilities she would not be able to breast feed. It is like if somebody does not have one or both arms at birth, even if artificial limbs are placed, they would not be functional like real ones.

I am sorry that I could not offer you a way out. Please feel free to revert back in case of further queries if any.
