What Is The Cause And Treatment For Fever In A Child?

My 3 year old started running a fever on sunday it has reached as high as 104.7 and has consistently stayed high. He went to the doctor on Monday has an ear infection and possibly strep throat. They put him on antibiotics and has been on them for 48 hours now. His fever is still persistent. He has ate nothing since sunday, and only drinks when his fever is extremely high. At what point should I take him back to the dr? Its been 4 days now.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
An antipyretic (fever lowering drug) should also be given to control the fever.
In addition, hydration should be maintained to prevent dehydration.
It has been only two days since the antibiotics were started thus wait fora another three days for the antibiotics to act.
However, if the symptoms of infection and fever do not subside after another three days you need to consult your pediatrician for clinical assessment.
This can occur in case the infectious agent is not responsive to antibiotics.

Thanks and take care
