What Is The Cause And Treatment For Pressure And Pain In Head?

tension headaches
Hello -

My name is Brittany. I've been experiencing pressure, starting in the back of my head, that makes it difficult for me to sometimes hold my head up. It feels like my ears are clogged and someone is squeezing my head. My primary care doc has said that it could have something to do with my scoliosis and prescribed me muscle relaxers. I worry about this because my mother suffered permanent injury from a TBI from which she had a congenital cyst on her brain. What could be causing these headaches and do you think I should get an MRI?

Hello Brittany!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to tension type headache, which is a benign type of headache caused by anxiety.

Cervical spondylarthrosis and a wrong position of the head during the day, a bad billow during sleep, can trigger this type of headache.

No one of the above mentioned causes is concerning.

So, I would recommend you to perform a lot of physical activity, try to correct your posture and use an orthopedic pillow during the night.

If headache does not improve from painkillers, I would recommend performing a brain CT scan or MRI to exclude other possible causes that may trigger these symptoms.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards, Dr. Aida
