There are different possible causes for blood in the urine (hematuria) such as : (1) trauma to a part of the urinary tract (2)stones in the urinary tract (3)infection (4)blood disorders (5)cancer (6) kidney disease (7)idiopathic- there is no known cause
To determine the cause your doctor would take a careful history to determine if there are symptoms to point to a specific cause. In addition to physical examination, blood tests and imaging of the kidneys and other parts of the urinary tract may be suggested.
I hope this helps
