What Is The Cause For Pain In The Upper Right Abdominal Area?

I have had pain in my upper right abdominal area (far right under ribs and boating to the back). The pain never goes away but does get more severe at times. I have had an ultra sound clear of gallstones and the gallbadder function test showed it working at 93%. What can I do now?

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Pain in the right upper abdomen can occur due to gallbladder issues. liver issues and peptic ulcer disease commonly. Since gallbladder issues have been ruled out and that the ultrasound did not show anything abnormal about the liver ( you have not mentioned any issues in the liver), the next step is to rule out peptic ulcer disease. An upper GI endoscopy may be done next. You can take OTC prilosec for relief.

I hope that answers your question.
Regards,
Dr.R.K
