What Is The Cause Of Feeling Cold ?

My 12 year old son is recovery from a ruptured appendix...surgery... etc... It happened 4 weeks ago and of course he lost about 15 pounds. But he is complaining of being cold... when it really isn t even all that cold outside. Should I be concerned? Susan

Hello
Feeling of cold after surgery for appendix may be due to .
1 Septicemia as I have noted in my many patient that feeling of cold ( shivering ) is an initial symptoms of septicemia . Diagnosis can be confirmed by blood examination for culture and drug sensitivity test . So please check temperature regularly , if present consult your treating doctor and get his opinion.
2 Some times surgeon passes Catheter in urethra and this become cause of urinary infection , so if it passed in your son case then take treatment for urine infection.
3 Surgical infection may be the next reason.
In these condition please consult your surgeon ( operating ) and get his opinion.
