What Is The Cause Of Pain In Hips And Knees Despite Hip Replacements?

I have had two hip replacements but suddenly I have quite bad pain in both my hips and knees. I find relief when I go swimming but then this wears off. I swim to help my circulation which I don t think is very good. I have only restarted my swimming since the pain arrived about two weeks ago but the relief seems to be only for an hour or so. Linda

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
Pain in both hips and knees that you have described are likely to be due to a muscular pain most likely due to spasm. Taking mild stretching exercise will be helpful.
You can do a hot fomentation and apply a local analgesic gel on the area to relieve the spasm. Continue doing swimming to relieve the spasm.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
