What Is The Cause Of Swollen Gland Above The Eye?

My daughter has a swollen gland above her left eye. About 6 weeks ago the right one was swollen but it decreased when treated with a steriod. She has continued to take 2 mg of the steroid because when she stops for even a day it becomes swollen and shuts her eye. What could be the cause of this? How should it be treated? We are seeing another doctor on Thursday.

Hello
It seems from the history that your daughter is having swollen gland above the eye first in right eye followed by left eye. Since it is responding to steroids this is inflammatory lesion.
This can be a small swelling involving the glands of the eyelids like chalazion or it can be deeper swelling like pseudo tumor.
Chalazion is treated by incision and curettage or by intralesional injection of steroids. Pseufotumor requires long term use of steroids and non responding cases may require radiotherapy.
Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination and treatment accordingly.

Thank you
