What Is The Dosage Of Misoprostol To Induce Miscarriage?

Hi I was prescribed misoprostol for an induced miscarriage because I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum at about 7 weeks pregnant. When I picked up my prescription I was given 3 pills in the bottle, each 200mcg, and the directions stated take 1 tablet by mouth as directed. I was confused and questioned the pharmacist as to whether I m suppose to take 1 pill a day for 3 days, or take all 3 pills at once, etc? I called dr. On call and he was really no help, he said he would talk to my doctor and call me back. I haven t heard from him yet. I already took 1 pill at 1115am today and I just wanted some direction with the other two pills. Please help if you can. I am 29 y/o female 7 wks pregnant with blighted ovum. Thank u.

Hello and welcome,

I understand the issue. However misoprostol is usually not used alone to induce an abortion. Most of the time it is combined with mifepristone.

The dose is one tablet mifepristone followed by 600-800 mcg misoprostol after 48 hours orally or vaginally.

The failure rate when used for blighted ovum is slightly higher. So it is better that you do not take the tablets by yourself and consult your doctor about the drugs as well as dose.
