Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is The Life Expectancy In A 50 Year Old Having High BP And Cholesterol?
My friend's aunt is 51, smokes more than 2 packs a day, recently diagnosed diabetic, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, has edema of her legs and weighs 400 pounds. She's 5'4". How long will she live? What's her chances of having a heart attack or stroke? My friend is worried for her.
Is there any family history of hypertension or heart attack? It also helps in calculating the chances of such disease in children. Chances of hypertension & stroke increases considerably(almost double) in diabetic hypertensive patients who are also smoker. Smoking increases the risk of atherosclerosis which causes occlusion of an artery anywhere in the body (more specifically of brain or coronary artery) resulting in stroke or heart attack. Chances can be reduced by taking care of modifiable risk factors & trying to lead a healthy life.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. Wishing her good health.
