What Is The Medication For Thick White Scab On Scalp?
Hi have had for the last couple of weeks a thick white scab on my scalp at the back u have been pickinging it off as its really itchy and its back again the next day around it and. Some parts it's very red was wondering what I was as doesn't look like dandruff and how to get rid if it
I would rather keep a possibility of scalp psoriasis which can present as itchy, red, scaly patches on the scalp.
While using a coal tar based shampoo helps in removing the scales and reducing the itch but as a dermatologist I usually also prescribe a topical potent steroid+ salicyclic acid based lotion twice daily at the affected patch for 2-4 weeks, for a more complete resolution which can then be maintained by just using a shampoo. Another option is using a calcipotriol based lotion twice daily instead of using a topical steroid based lotion
An OTC antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10mg once daily would help you symptomatically with the itching.
regards
