What Is The Prognosis After A Massive Stroke?

my nan has ahd a massive stroke, we have been told they don t think she will ever get her movement back in right side she can t sit up on her own and says some words. Nan now has a water infection she has been given antibiotics, we have thought about her going in a care home as we don t hink we would be able to look after her at home. What are the chances of my nan surviving.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Usually the biggest threat to ones life after a stroke is during the first couple of weeks. After that the risk is not due to the happened stroke itself but due secondary complications due to immobilization like respiratory infections, urinary infection, bed sores.
So if she's taken well care of to prevent such complications she could live for many years (providing there are no other conditions or stroke recurrences). If the care home respects certain standards, with special care to patient hygiene, rehabilitation, mobilization, there is no need to think she will be in extra danger there.
