Dr,I am 12 weeks pregnant and my neck is getting very dark and is very itchy as well.I had this problem in my last pregnancy as well, but at that time doctors didn t do any thing and it got very worse postnatally and one doctor gave me tretin cream and one other cream to use alternatively during day & night.that helped to a great extent.she asked me to continue HH lite cream for 2 months, but soon after i started it,i became pregnant and i stopped it myself.I tried to contact her,but not succeded as I moved my place. Please advise me in this situation?
See some degree of darkening of the skin in the body folds along with itching is quite common in pregnancy. This can occur in various body folds like neck, axilla and groin. Usually it does not need any treatment if it is not bothering the patient much since the condition is totally reversible and tends to return back to normal once the patient delivers. But if the pigmentation is a real cause of concern then you can use some mild lightening agents containing kojic acid since they are safe to be used in pregnancy.
