What Is The Recommended Dosage For Seteraline ?

Yes, I was wondering the recommended dosage for Seteraline would be for a 23 year old young male? Everything I have read has said 200 is the maximum dosage. His doctor is very difficult or next to impossible to get ahold of and we are concerned that he is over medicated. When he brings it up to the doctor...he doesn't seem to want to discuss it, he just got upset with our son for asking him repeatedly about the fact that something is making him very sleepy which I have read is one of the side effects, he is also taking Buspirone, Suboxxone, and Lamotrigine. He is hardly able to stay awake to even function. We are very concerned about his safety. I understand that it is important to follow up with our doctor, but I also know it IS possible for doctors to make mistakes on how much medicine a patient should be receiving. WE are just needing some guidelines as to how much is appropriate for our son to be taking. I would check with Seteraline if I had a phone number for them. Should I call the Pharmacy to get a phone number? Respectfully...P. Darnell

Hello thanks for asking

Sertraline is a SSRI drug and the drug is known to cause sedation as side effect but the sedation is not much severe, it can be tolerated and it doesn't result in day time drowsiness. Dose of sertraline depends upon clinical situation, age, weight, sex of patient. Normal doses are started with 50 mg per day and then gradually increased to 100-200 mg per day. Even some doctors use the doses more than 200 mg, and there is no risk of any serious side effect.
He is also taking suboxone, buspirone and lamotrigine. All of these drugs can cause sedation. The most likely reason for sedation seen in his case is due to combined effect of all these drugs. If sedation is causing significant impairment in his functioning I would advise you to consult his psychiatrist for dose adjustments.
