Recovery from primary infection usually gives immunity for life. It is the reactivation of this dormant virus that gives shingles. This mostly occurs in people with compromised immune systems. So there are less chances for you to have chicken pox again given that you have had it once, but you can develop shingles as a result of reactivation of the latent infection.
