What Is The Recurrence Chance Of Chicken Pox?

Hi My niece has chicken pox . I had this when I was a child. Can I get chicken pox again? What are the chances of me catching shingles (I m a little run down due to my mother passing a month ago)? Can I catch any of these from my sister, ie my niece s mother? I m going to Mexico in a week so am concerned. Many thanks.

Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare Magic.
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns.
After primary infection with chicken pox, the virus remains dormant in nerves. Recovery from primary infection usually gives immunity for life. It is the reactivation of this dormant virus that gives shingles. This mostly occurs in people with compromised immune systems. So there are less chances for you to have chicken pox again given that you have had it once, but you can develop shingles as a result of reactivation of the latent infection.
I hope that answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. We will be happy to answer more questions from you.
I wish you good health
