What Is The Red Line Going Up Towards The Calf Post Heel Injury?

My boyfriend was out swimming in a creek and he hit his heel on a rock. It was only a baby gash nothing serious. That was about a week ago. It has since scabbed over and looks like a normal sore, but it has a squiggly red line going up towards his calf now. What does that mean?

Hello,

The red line going up could be an inflamed lymph vessel or a vein. Maybe due to an infective process setting in.

The exact cause can be determined only after clinical examination and investigations.
