What Is The Redness And Swelling In Tonsils Along With White Stuff On Tonsils?

Hi I have red and swollen throat and tonsils as well as white stuff (kind of looks like a canker) on the back of my throat. Also have fever, ear ache and body aches. Went to doctor yesterday and was given Amoxicillan. No improvement. Words cannot express how painful it is to swallow. The pain wakes me up at night.

Hi,

Redness and swelling in tonsils along with white stuff seems to be due to Bacterial Infection or Strep throat. White pustules are pus pockets that further confirms towards bacterial infection. Pain in ears can be a radiating pain from infected throat, as well as fever and body aches can be due to infection. For confirmation consult an Otolaryngologist or an ENT expert and get evaluated. He can do investigations like Throat swab culture can help in diagnosis.

You can be advised:
-Antibiotics like Augmentin OR Azithromycin to resolve the infection
-Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be taken to relive pain
-Doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can be very much relieving
-You can also suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat
-Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine
-Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water
-Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods
