What Is The Remedy For Constant Need To Clear The Throat And Cough With History Of Having GERD?

Hello. My name is Rachel, and I suffer from GERD. I am constantly having to clear my throat, and my coughing keeps me from sleeping at night. What should I do? I currently do not have health insurance. I am 62 years old and have been out of a job for 2 years. Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

This gerd of yours is causing your cough...the acid reflux is irritating the mucosa of your throat to cause cough...

You need to start on a combination of a ppi and levosulpride... its easily available over the counter...stop having tea, coffee, soda drinks, smoking, spicy and fatty foods, as they all will make the gerd worse....and you will land in serious complications... and you don't have insurance... so you can use the money saved on this for the medication...

Eat small and frequent meals....dont lie down for an hour after the meals...and put two pillows below your head while sleeping.... do warm saline gargles to heal your throat...
