What Is The Remedy For Dry Cough?

My son is going to be 8 mths on the 13th. He started a bad cold 2 weeks ago (going on week #3). He coughs a lot although it seems to be getting better he coughs so hard that he sometimes spits up what is left in his stomach. He is now losing his voice and his cough is now a dry cough and sounds a lot like a "bark". I've been to the emergency with him during the first week he was sick but he had a wet cough at the time. I was told that there's nothing that they could do. I'm very worried about him. Should I get him checked again or am I just being a paranoid mother.

Hi and thanks for the query,
There are drugs indicated for dry cough. However, understanding and checking for an underlying cause of the dry cough remains a priority. Carbocysteine is a common remedy. A clinical exam by your doctor and a chest X ray would provide very useful information. Kind regards
