Hi Age: 20 years Height: 5'4'' weight: 45 Medical history: no illness As you can see my weight is not in proportion with my height, I have been trying to figure out a way to put on weight. I have tried every possible thing: eating a lot of cheese and butter, drinking creamy milk, consuming rice, ayurvedic medicines with meat extracts et cetera but nothing seemed to have worked yet. I have been desperate to gain some weight because I really look malnourished. This has brought my confidence level down too, which makes me shy away from crowd and place where looking good is a priority. I am a journalist and I can't avoid meetings with personalities. Not being able to look nice makes me not take up opportunities. I have tried to look up on the internet for just about anything that could possibly help me gain weight but they advertise products that are out of my budget to purchase. I am counting on this site to help me figure out something. I would be really grateful to know what can possibly help me gain weight. Thank you.
Hello there, I can understand your concern. Yes I agree that you are underweight but I do not understand why should this lower your confidence. These days across the globe girls and women are trying to be thin and skinny. You are just 20 years old and there is no reason why low weight should affect you like this. First of all let me tell you that you need a thorough medical exam and some blood tests like CBC, Thyroid function tests, Liver function test, Fasting and post meal sugars, 8Am serum cortisol. Based on these reports we can further guide you. Many people have a high basal metabolic rate and do not put on weight no matter what they eat. This is quite normal if all other parameters are normal. Do not let low weight affect your personality. The rich and famous are all trying to be thin. So carry yourself well and you will do better in a crowd. You being thin is nobody's problem and if you stand tall which you are, and confident you can appeal to many in a meeting. Try seeing a counsellor and work on building your confidence rather than worrying about your weight. Hope this helps. Take care.
