What Is The Right Time To Eat And Right Food For Footballer?

Hi....i have this problem which started about a year & a half ago. Every saturday morning i play 5 a side indoor football for around 75 minutes.During footbal i am fine it is only later on the day around 5 hours after football i get an awful headache, it lasts for the rest of the day. I was told that i should eat before i play football, i have done that, on some occasions it has worked, but not all the time. Is my problem that im not eating the right food before football or could it be something else? I drink enough water during & after football. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, I am Dr. Shreyash Mehta, MD Community Medicine

I understood your concern, I hope my answer will solve your query

As you told that you play football for about 75 minutes following this about 5 hours later you are having headache.

I advise you to have fruits like banana or apple or some food containing whole grains like flour bread, porridge etc. These are complex carbohydrates which release the sugar at a slower rate.

As a result you will not have hypoglycemia and so you wont have headache.

After playing football you can also have fruits like banana, orange, apple, porridge and energy bar (made up of groundnut and jaggery) these will provide you energy and would replenish your glycogen stores in the muscles and liver.

You can add lean meat/ egg white or low fat in your diet for strengthening your muscles.
