What Is The Risk Of HIV With This Kind Of Exposure?
I am the Employee Health nurse at a small hospital. A patient vomited and some of the vomitus splashed into an employee's eye. She promptly irrigated her eyes per protocol. The patient was known to be Hepatitis C positive and was tested. Results were HCV RNA PCR quantitative - 0000 (<43 IU/ml) and HCV PCR 7.02 (<1.63). What is the risk of infection to the employee from this kind of exposure?
