What Is The Safest Way To Taper Off Diltiazem ER While Using Herbal Remedies For Blood Pressure And Heartbeat?

I have been taking Diltiazem for years, but got my doc to reduce the dosage to 120 mg ER because I am also taking several natural supplements (herbal extracts such as hawthorn for HBP and motherwort for irregular heartbeat). I would now like to completely stop the diltiazem, as I rarely have any symptoms and feel my natural remedies are the reason. What is the best way to slowly stop? I am taking the capsules, but I also have the ER tablets. My plan was to begin splitting the tablet into 2 and take 1/2 tablet once a day for a week and then stop altogether. What do you think?

Hi,

I will not advise you to taper off/ stop Diltiazem on your own, even if you are on some herbal extracts. It should be strictly under guidance of your doctor. If, you are not getting symptoms of disease at all or getting reduced frequency of symptoms, it may be due to the treatment, you are taking.

Even, otherwise, Diltiazem may be needed for the prevention of derogatory symptoms, as a result of your disease of hypertension and irregular heart beats. Many a times the disease may play havoc silently without any visible symptoms, but definitely making harm to your heart or other organs. For any change in the dosage of Diltiazem, strictly consult your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
