What Is The Survival Rate With Low Heart Functioning Rate?
My dad had a heart attack on friday and didnt get treatment til sunday. They placed a stent in his artery but the damage was really severe the cardiologist says his heart is at about 25% after everything is said and done. My dad is only 54 and my question is how long can a person survive with only 25% heart function if he changes his diet and slows down at work. I want my dad around for a long time. Thanks in advance
Hi welcome to HCM. Heart attacks if untreated for long time can grossly lead to increase in both short term as well as long term mortality.Survival rates largely depend on the artery that's involved in infarction and also the remaining amount of viable myocardium. This can be accurately assessed through Pharmocodynamic stress testing of the heart.Patients with ejection fractions as low as 25% can have a decent 5 year survival rates of 40-60%,in presence of good control of Blood pressure and drugs like cardiac inotropes like dopamine and digitalis.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you
