What Is The Treatment For Cohn S Disease, Suffering With Pain, Loss Of Appetite, Fatigue And Low Energy?

Hi, I am a female of 46 years. I was diagnosed with Crohn s Disease 20 years ago. For the last 3 years the doctor s and I have not been able to settle this one flare up. I am currently taking Humira and on pain medication. I live with severe pain every day, fatigue, no appetite, and low energy. In the last year, the doctors have done numerous tests, including colonoscopies. The doctor s found a collapsed ileum, enlarged lymph node on intestinal wall, loops of the intestine, and just today took biopsies of my large colon. Can anyone tell me what all of this might mean for me, and why wont they do surgery? I did have 1 bowel resection 16 years ago. I desperately want another surgery, but they seem to think I do not need it. I want my life back!!!!! Desperate for Answers, Sandra.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your symptoms are clearly caused by Crohns flare up. If it can not be settled, leads to many complications including bowels obstruction and fistulas. I`m pretty concerned that your main pain is caused by some obstruction. Especially if your abdomen gets bloated, you have diarrhea and gas obstruction, the pain is cramping like.
If so, you should have enteroclysis (abdominal CT with oral contrast) to determine if there is an obstruciton or not. If it is, surgery seems to be the solution (as medicines do not work).

Hope this will help.
Regards.
