What Is The Treatment For A Large Bruise In The Leg?

I noticed a large bruise on the back of my right leg, just above the knee about 3 days ago. It has the purple color to it, but it does not blanch. I have looked online and found mixed messages about whether regular bruises blanch or not. I had a full blood work-up done about 4 months ago and everything was normal. I don t remember any specific trauma, but I may have bumped it without remembering. My main concern is that it does not blanch or fade when I press it.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of Purpuric rash, my treatment advice is:

1. Do not scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion on affected region twice daily.
3. Take a vitamin C supplement daily for 3 months.

If the problem persists, then consult a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
