What Is The Treatment For A Small Bump On The Throat?

I have had a sensation about a month of a need to burp or an air bubble in my throat. It is worrisome especially when lying down. I had an elevated thyroid count - they redid the test and said it was normal. I am 56, feeling fatigued, have trouble sleeping, and have night sweats.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history well and understood the concerns.
The commonest causes of your symptoms are as follows:
Feeling and needing to burp the air bubble in throat can be due to some sort of pouch in throat called diverticulum.
Can also occur due to GERD that is gastro-esophageal reflux disease.
Hyperthyroidism gives varied symptoms and thus can be a cause and a proper treatment may reverse the symptoms.
Hence I would advise you teh following in such a situation:
Get started on a PPI like Omeprazole and Domperidone.
Antacids when on empty stomach.
Consult an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation and get the necessary investigations as advised which may be in the form of following:
Barium swallow for pharynx to duodenum.
Upper GI Endoscopy.
Small bumps on throat can be granular pharyngitis which your Doctor will confirm.
Once a proper diagnosis is made the management will be proper and effective. Can be medicines and if there is a cause like diverticulum or Hiatus Hernia then surgery may be required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
