What Is The Treatment For Abdominal Pain And Bloating?

My wife is undergoing Leukaemia treatment (phase 1 right now - chemo/steroids) just got discharged from hospital yesterday. She s taking prednisone 50mg orally and along with that antacid Apo-omeprazole 20mg but she s been having these severe lower abdominal pain/cramps and feeling bloated every now and then. The pain has been there for few days but has gotten worse since yesterday. I went to the family doctor and he prescribed Gaviscon and Zantac 150 but that doesnt seem to be helping either. Anything you can suggest we can do or take? Or should we just take her to ER? Please help.

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

Considering that she is hematologic patients, she should go to ER as soon as possible and have some tests to rule out intestinal obstruction. however, in most cases this is benign and may be sign of food allergy, hatal hernia ,IBS or inflammatory bowel diseases. So you should do gastroenterologic work up but first try to change your dietary habits, it means: eat smaller meals but more frequently, avoid fried and spicy food, take menta tea, avoid alcohol and coffee, eat probiotics and milk products, boiled food and vegetables. Also, there are medications such as Flobian, which may relieve such symptoms.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
