Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had problems with my stomach and bowel movements (constipation) for the last couple years. Recently it has been worse than ever. I didnt have a regular bowl movement for a week and a half; a few mini ones here and there. It was like a switch flipped one day and I instantly had an upset stomach and have been having bouts of stool that are orangish with mucus and string like substances attached to it. Ive been that way for the last week. I feel like I should be going more that I still am...like I am not completely empty. My stomach has still been upset regularly. I dont know if I have a blockage, IBS, Side affects of my Nuva ring...? Ive been like this on and off but this is pry the worst yet. I personally think I have IBS. Im assuming my best option is to get some tests run but its hard to find the tim being that I drive truck for a living and dont want to do 20 tests that will lead no where.
This may be r related to IBS and chronic constipation (spasms). That is particularly true when you consume foods like nuts or popcorn that would trigger spasms of the bowel.
I suggest running colonoscopy to exclude organic problems first. With regards to finding blood floating in the toilet after you pass the motion, that would be related to possible:
- fissures due to chronic constipation
- hemorrhoids.
In both cases, you need to take measures to reduce constipation that would trigger such problems:
- do more physical activity
- increase water consumption
- take more foods high in fiber content
- fiber supplements can help
- can use laxatives once in a while to improve the symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
