Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 17, she was diagnosed with hipylori and given antibiotics. The antibiotics don't seem to have worked as she still suffers from stomache pain, indigestion, irregular bowl movement etc and now she has acute back pain.... is this connected as well?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about your 17 year old daughter and understood the concerns. H pylori is connected with the gastritis or gastric ulcer problems and hence treated with Amoxicillin and Clarithromycin which are not the medicines of choice for intestinal infection. Hence the symptoms of stomach pain, indigestion and irregular bowel movements may not be treated with these set of medications. I would advise her the following in such a case: Get the stool and blood tests done. If there is any evidence of any intestinal infections she may need a course of antibiotics like Ofloxacin or so that is active against intestinal infection, Metronidazole and probiotics and she may get well soon. If there is no still complete relief go for colonoscopy and CT scan of the abdomen to get additional information and get a proper plan of management
