What Is The Treatment For Indigestion And Hiatus Hernia?

I feel as though I have swallowed a golf ball. I have discomfort, like indigestion, around the area of my diaphragm. I have gallstones (diagnosed 3 years ago) and I am waiting for a scan as I have been feeling very sick for the last few weeks and unable to eat. I am also being sent to a gynaecologist to check for endometriosis and I have IBS and a lot of pain. My GP gave me diazepam to help with the anxiety this lumpy thing is causing me - 2mg, twice a day. I also take 20mg of amytriptaline in the evening, which I was originally given for pain. I also have a 4cm hiatus hernia. What do you think this horrible feeling is - it's right at the top of my ribs, the diaphragm area. I hate it.

Hello,
I can understand your concern for your symptoms.
1) 4cm hiatus hernia is large sized and you need surgery for that.
2) Hiatus hernia cause laxity in stomach-esophageal junction and this is responsible for reflux of acid into esophagus due to which inflammation (oesophagitis) develop in lower part of esophagus. This is responsible for development of symptoms in your case.
3) Treatment for acidity, prokinetic medication to promote stomach movement help to reduce symptoms by reducing amount of reflux.
4) If reflux is due to hiatus hernia then surgery is only cure as medical treatment provide only symptomatic relief.
5) Having gall stones, it is advisable for you to perform laparoscopic surgery for hiatus hernia repair and at same time removal of gall bladder due to presence of stones can also be done.
