Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
First of all you should mention your complaints. Because in case of back problem not only mri but whole clinical scenario should be taken into consideration while deciding plan of management. Your mri is also 5 years old and also needs to be done again. So if you have significant amount of back pain , difficulty in performing daily activities and neurological claudication a repeat mri of lumbosacral spine is must. If this new mri shows canal stenosis and disc prolapse then surgery is recommended. There are various ways of spine surgery and best of them is endoscopic approach. Please take a visit to endoscopic spine surgeon nearby you and get examined.
