What Is The Treatment For Thyromegaly?

hello.my mom age 45 has thyroidomegaly problem with retrosternal extension diagnosed in ct scan test .she had normal thyroid profile test as it had been done one month back.so now i am in very much confuse whether she require surgery for that or it is treatable with medicine also.and which doctor is suitable for that problem.

I can understand your concern.

Your mother has an enlarged thyroid gland,this is a condition called struma or goitre.Goiter treatment depends on the size of the goiter, the signs and symptoms, and the underlying cause. Your doctor may recommend: Observation,Medication,Surgery or Radioactive iodine.
I suggest to see an endocrinologist for the exact diagnose of your mother's goitre and for the necessary follow-up.
If the actual thyroid profile tests are normal this means that you dont need any treatement and her treating doctor will decise the right solution for her condition.
