Hi,

This combination is a form of treatment of infertility associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Letrozole works to induce ovulation (release of egg from the ovary) and thus helps women with PCOS to conceive. Use of Letrozole is associated with low estrogen levels causing certain side effects like bloating, stomach upset, headache, hot flashes, night sweats, and spotting or unusual menstrual bleeding. Prognynova which contains female sex hormone estrogen hence given to prevent the above cited side effects.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
