What Kind Of Help Does A Child Diagnosed With Mild Retardation And Developmental Delay Need?
I need some help and advice about my son who was diagnosed developmentally delayed and mild retardation. which 3 yrs ago when diagnosed teachers didn't feel he was m-r. but yet they removed him from reg classes and put him in special ed. and he is 13 and still can not read and write. only reads recognized words. there is only 2 children in his special ed and other boy has cerebal palsy. how can I get help for my chijd he needs
I went through your details. I suggest you not to worry much.First of all it is a crime put a non-mentally retarded child with a cerebral palsy child. In recent studies it is correctly concluded that even MR children learn much when they are put together with normal children. MR children wants do as normal children do and then they learn. Here your child is not diagnosed as MR and that makes a lot of difference. He is supposed to be studying with other normal children.
First take your child to a clinical psychologist or neurologist to determine whether he is a normal child or has some learning iability etc. Clinical psychologist do have so many measures to ascertain. Neurologist should also be helpful. Find a school nearby where they are willing to take up the case as normal children and take amission. Your child should improve within 6 months even if he has learning disability. I assure.
Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications. Good luck.
