What Makes The Odor Less Pungent While Diapering An Elderly Parent?

Is there anything I can use to make the smell less pungent while I am diapering my elderly parent? I spray Lysol soon after I finish diapering but the odor is out of the room and spread all over. And should I wear a partial face mask to cover my nose or is this being too offensive to my parent?

HI,
I understand your concern.
If you take care of your own health/ avoid foul smell- you can nurse your parent with more love & care. So there is nothing wrong in putting on mask, only need is to to explain the need of using it . I would suggest-
- You can gently explain possibility of infection while changing diaperto cover patient's nose with a half mask & then put one on yourself. Use disposable hand gloves.
- The used diaper should be disposed off immediately.
- Use phenylalanine to clean the room, sprinkle scented talcum powder on patient's body( it will help prevention of bed sore too.)
Thanks.
-Use room fresheners. let the room be well ventilated.
